Crazy collabs out right now....

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Like Khaled says, Listennn:

Rihanna feat. Jay-Z "Umbrella" - as I said on Rizoh's site where I heard this joint: this is a smash. Essentially a pop-rock tune with hip hop drums under it - this one could be monstorous!

Timbaland feat. M.I.A. "Come Around" - bonus track from the UK version of the new Timbaland (mp3 via Spine, right click and save as | streaming zShare link via Discobelle)

Omarion feat. Usher & Fabolous "Ice Box (remix)" - am I the only one who thinks the addition of Fab makes this remix worse? (zshare link via Godisbloggen)

Alberto Gonzales: worst Attorney General ever?

Then...

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales lying when he claimed he was not involved in the political firing of eight US Attorneys at a March 13 press conference:

Now...

Gonzales Approved Firings Of U.S. Attorneys.

"ABC News reports that new emails reveal that the plan for firing U.S. Attorneys originated in the White House. Both Karl Rove and Alberto Gonzales discussed the idea of firing all 93 U.S. attorneys in early January 2005." (more at Think Progress)

Guardian: "Rather than merely signing off on the firings, as Gonzales has repeatedly stated, his former chief of staff Kyle Sampson says the attorney general was in the middle of things from the beginning."

USA Today: "Three of the eight federal prosecutors ousted by the Justice Department as poor performers ranked in the top 10 for prosecutions and convictions by the nation's 93 U.S. attorneys, an analysis of court records shows."

Also:

Washington Post: "The leader of the Justice Department team that prosecuted a landmark lawsuit against tobacco companies said yesterday that [Bush loyalists in Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales’s office] repeatedly ordered her to take steps that weakened the government’s racketeering case."

Baghdad Security Crackdown Update!

From ABC News:

"A loud explosion shook the area near the U.S. embassy in Baghdad's heavily fortified international Green Zone in central Baghdad on Monday, witnesses said.

The cause of the blast was not immediately clear, but the area is frequently attacked by mortars and rockets, which usually cause few casualties.

A rocket landed close to a building where U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki were holding a news conference in the Green Zone last week [see video above].

Monday's blast took place just hours after outgoing U.S. ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad told reporters that he was cautiously optimistic about the future in Iraq."

I would say he needs to be a lot more than cautious! Click here for more. Don't worry, I'm getting to this Alberto Gonzales f-ckery in a minute....

The Kitchen: always fresh!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
So So Fresh: Mickey Factz (2nd from left) and his GFC crew

Further proof to me that the YBI movement out of Harlem is what's gonna "save" NYC hip hop. F-ck what ya heard: hip hop ain't dead! There are so many kids from Uptown you ain't even heard of yet doing some amazing things with hip hop right now like Mickey Factz. These tracks - from a mixtape where homeboy raps over N*E*R*D instrumentals called In Search of the N.E.R.D. - are just a teaser of what this dude is capable of. I can't wait to hear what he does over some original tracks.

Listen:

"Rockstar Posers" [MP3: YSI | Zshare stream/download] - Mickey may stay fresh himself but he goes in on all the new young fashionistas trying to be fresh 2 def out there on this track!

"Breakout" [MP3: YSI | Zshare stream/download] - dude even gets political. My kind of MC!

Props to my dude Kwasi from Laced magazine for putting me up on this cat.

Online:

Related:

Shout also to my dudes Dante Ross and OG Englishman in New York (now relocated to Hawaii), Jules who I caught up with at the Vans/DQM party a couple weeks back. If you don't know who Dante is, do your homework. And for those who think DJ AM, Cassidy, Diplo, Mark Ronson and other white boys spinning hip hop nowadays is something new, Jules was the truth killin' spots like 2i's and Don Hill's back in the day. He's part of the true history of 90's-era NYC hip hop that'll probably never get written but real heads know the deal....

So where are we at in Iraq again? Oh yeah, I remember...

"Jobs gone and schools closed. Marriages delayed and children mourned. Markets bombed and clean water in short supply. Speaking freely now a dangerous act.

And hope lost.

Four years after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, Iraqis describe daily lives that have been torn apart by spiraling violence and a faltering economy. The bursts of optimism reported in a 2004 public-opinion survey taken a year after the invasion and another in 2005 before landmark legislative elections have nearly vanished."

Iraq: is this still just a troop 'surge'?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Announced yesterday:

"President Bush asked Congress on Saturday for $3.2 billion to pay for 8,200 more U.S. troops needed in Afghanistan and Iraq on top of the 21,500-troop buildup he announced in January.

Bush wants Congress to fund 3,500 new U.S. troops to expand training of local police and army units in Afghanistan. The money also would pay for the estimated 3,500 existing U.S. troops he already announced would be staying longer in the region to counter an anticipated Taliban offensive in Afghanistan this spring. [emphasis added]"

From "Bush Seeks 8,200 More Troops For Wars" - click here for more.

Related:

From a couple weeks ago:

"Rushed by President Bush's decision to reinforce Baghdad with thousands more U.S. troops, two Army combat brigades are skipping their usual session at the Army's premier training range in California and instead are making final preparations at their home bases.

Some in Congress and others outside the Army are beginning to question the switch, which is not widely known. They wonder whether it means the Army is cutting corners in preparing soldiers for combat, since they are forgoing training in a desert setting that was designed specially to prepare them for the challenges of Iraq. [emphasis added]"

Click here for more from "2 Army units will forgo desert training."

Meanwhile:
"The US army is lagging behind Iraq's insurgents tactically in a war that senior officers say is the biggest challenge since Korea 50 years ago.

Top American generals make shock admission as Iraq leader pleads with neighbouring countries to seal off their borders."

War on Terror Update: Baghdad Troop Escalation

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image via Bartcop

The latest on the Baghdad troop escalation:

"Insurgents have sought to intensify attacks during a Baghdad security crackdown and additional U.S. forces will be sent to areas outside the capital where militant groups are regrouping, the new commander of U.S. forces in Iraq said Thursday.

U.S. Gen. David Petraeus said the troop buildups outside Baghdad will focus on Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, a growing hotbed for suspected Sunni extremists fleeing the U.S.-Iraqi security operation in Baghdad.

But Petraeus stressed that military force alone is "not sufficient" to end the violence in Iraq and political talks must eventually include some militant groups now opposing the U.S.-backed government. [emphasis added]"
